Mention Arcserve, NTBACKUP, etc, in the docs
|

| No discussion of backup procedures is complete without mentioning
products like ArcServe, NTBACKUP, etc, and the roles they can, and
especially CANNOT, play. However, no references can be found in the
Help or on iAnywhere.com.
This is important, because there ARE folks out there who are running
NTBACKUP, etc, and think they are protected.

PS yeah, I know, it's missing from the book too :)

| I second the intent here. [Most of tech. support would likely concur as
well]
Breck, Here's some ammunition for future discussions:
http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1025501
Maybe we just need some doc. links to that tech doc. and
specifically the section that states
Third-Party Backup Software
iAnywhere Solutions, at time of writing, does ***not endorse any***
third-party backup software to be used with an Adaptive Server Anywhere
database. Only backup tools included with Adaptive Server Anywhere
can be used to back up a live database. You should be aware there are
some products that claim they back up Sybase databases, but this may
not include Adaptive Server Anywhere databases. . . .

| I am a big fan of shovelling everything into the Help. I know that
puts me at odds with some folks, including those who have the keys to
the Doc Kingdom... this forum would be a great place to have that
discussion. Whitepapers are great, and they should continue to be
written, but they get stale at an alarming rate, and if the material
is worthwhile, it should be absorbed into the Help where it will be
subject to ongoing review and update, as well as versioned along with
everything else... I *regularly* compare different Help files, from 9
back to 5.5, and that's not something you can do with website pages
that get updated according to some random schedule.
You can never have too much RAM, and you can never have too much Help!
