Dbremote hangs periodically
|
|
| Dave Westphal 2005-07-07, 9:23 am |
| ASA version 9.0.1 build 1964
We replicate our changes using dbremote FILE transfer method.
Periodically I have noticed that dbremote running on the Consolidated database hangs when creating out going messages when one of the remote databases fails to pickup the files ( file count reaches 46656).
Is there a way around the process hanging when the file count of 46656 is reached?
I use the -l640000 parameter to dbremote to set the MaxMsgsize to 640K, but I have compression enabled (set to the default setting) if that matters.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

| Sounds like a bug. Double check that the behaviour is the same with the current 9.0.2 ebf, but if it reproduces then you should submit the case to Tech Support.

| I posted it as a bug under case management, and it was closed with the following explanation:
This service is not intended to provide technical support and this issue is not considered a bug, per se, but a limitation in the capacity of the file system directory structure.
Many file systems limit the number of fils that can be created in a single directory. I suspect that you are encountering that limit in this case. You may want to consider changing the -m option for dbremote. This should reduce the number of messages created.
I did not see an explanation in the help on how the -m parameter would help to reduce the number of messages created.
I see some benefit for the remotes to use the -m option to possibly help in processing the many messages.

| Hi Dave,
Can you let me know what the case number was and I'll take a look at it.

| Case # 11151788
I did not add a lot to the case, seems quite easy to reproduce when the max number of messages are present.
