| Can someone explain to me the purpose of the consolidated user. I have an
idea from reading the documentation however, I am not sure I really
understand what the consolidated user purpose is.
Thanks

| Basically the consolidated user identifies the database node above the
current node in the replication hierarchy.

one purpose is to resolve conflicts. if otherwise not handled, consolida=
ted
user detects conflict (via verify clause), re-sends the value to the rem=
ote
sites, so ensures that the data is the same everywhere.

| Isn't the publisher pointing to the node above it??? I should of worded my
question what is the differences between the publisher and consolidated
user.
Thanks

| Looking in Sybase central at the properties of the publisher the address
there point to the consolidated database (i.e. the node above the current
database) From what I read the consolidated user also has the address of the
node above it. This is where I am getting confused.
I am in the initial phase of a multi-teered replication layout that will
have 1000's of remotes throughout the world. Thus I really want to make sure
I know what I am doing prior to diving into the project.
Thanks

| The publisher address in your configuration has been incorrectly set. The
Publisher address will be the incoming address for the current node. You
might want to review the ISQL version of the tutorial:
SQL Remote User's Guide
Tutorials for Adaptive Server Anywhere Users
Tutorial: Adaptive Server Anywhere replication using Interactive SQL and
dbxtract
I would also strongly recommend the SQL Remote course:
Replicating Data using SQL Remote 9.0

| That was my typo when in Sybase Central. What I meant was the "Remote" user
in the remote database has the address set to the "consolidated" database.
Publisher has the address of the meassage system for "current" node.
What is an example of what the consolidated user is used for?

| Your remote database should identify the node above it using the
Consolidated User. If this node happens to be a middle tier in a 3+tier
system, then it would also have Remote Users that identify nodes below it in
the hierarchy.
Again, I would suggest working through the tutorial using DBXtract so that
you can see what a typical remote database looks like when we create it.
