Author external tool for checking ML communication

Hi,

sometimes we have a problem with a ML client who starts a sync but is
not successfull as there's no communication.
On ML server side there's a request but no user authentification, which
runs 'til TCP/IP timeout. On client side there's a communication error
shown after about a minute.

We had already the experience that some providers don't forward any
packages on port 2439 which causes this behaviour.

Is there any (third party) tool which enables us to check if there's
chance to do a sync?

Thanks
Florian

Hi,

I just thought about my last thread and I think it must have an other
cause.

When ML server recognizes a sync request - this request arrives on port
2439 already, or not? This means port 2439 cannot be blocked at all?

It seems to be enough communication to get a sync started, but then any
further communication is blocked or slowed down, that timeouts stop the
sync process,

But what to do now and how to find out what causes this problem? Client
is a Win98 PC connected directly to a ADSL Modem.

Thanks
Florian

It sounds like the connection between the remote and the ML server is
one way only: the connection request gets through to the ML server, but
its acceptance doesn't make it back to the remote.

You could try running a web server and client, using port 2439, instead
of the ML server and client to determine whether or not the problem has
anything to do with MobiLink. I suspect it doesn't.

Cheers,

Graham

That's what I thought, too. But my problem is that I have to show the
client, that it is not our problem but his.

For example: the client says 'no we have no firewall, so it is the
provider or you' and the provider says 'no we don't block anything at
all, so it is the local pc or the server'. In this moment it is my
problem, because I have to show that it is not our fault. But how can I?

And now my search goes that way, that I look for a tool which enables me
to do a port trace that shows me where the blocking takes place.

Any idea or known tool?

The sniffer running on both sides should give you the information you
need.
