Author Error - INSERT into ML_USER
Doug

The first time my remote synchs to my consolidated there should be an entry
into my ML_USER table. But that is not what is happening. I get an error
message and it looks like this:

E. 07/25 16:02:33. <thread 1.1>: Error: ODBC: [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-01400:
cannot insert NULL into ("MOBILINK_ADMIN"."ML_USER"."PROGRESS")
(ODBC State = HY000, Native error code = 1400)

Now you need to know that I am using an Oracle 10g consolidated with an
Oracle 08.00.5800 driver with a remote running MobiLink 7.0.0.463. I am
aware that this configuration is in no way supported. As a matter of fact I
can't think of any worse combination to be using. But I understand that the
Oracle 10 drivers won't work with ASA 7, right?

All I'm asking for here is if the 08.0.5800 driver with 10g may be causing
this error, and that I am not doing something obviously dumb. I've synched
new remotes a thousand times (although not with this configuration) and not
seen this error before. Can I expect completely unpredictable behaviour with
this setup?

Any thoughts out there? And really, no need to be kind. After posting my ASA
7 issues here I've become quite thick skinned!

RRRoooooaaarrrr!

Given these circumstances I think an ODBC trace would be the only thing
to look at to see what is being passed.

Devil's advocate question: Since you've been able to upgrade to the
latest version of Oracle, why can't you upgrade MobiLink too?

My client feels that to upgrade their 300+ remote field sites to ASA 9 would
be too costly. Instead they have chosen to replace their ASA remote
databases with Oracle 8.01 databases (already in the field) and modify the
application code. (HQ is going to 10g but the field stays at 8.01...) As a
replacement to MobiLink they will use Sonic's Message Queuing product.

This mish-mash of MobiLink and Oracle 10g is a contingency in case the
applications are not modified by the time we need to go into production
again. Our production schedule cannot be predetermined in advance hence we
need to be ready at a moments notice. We hope never to have to use this
configuration I am testing but we can never know for sure....

Ouch!

I think it would be cheaper for them to just upgrade the MobiLink
server. Old remotes work with a newer MobiLink server.

Also, I think it would be better to change the remote app that uses
Oracle 8 to use ASA instead of changing the the remote apps that use ASA
to use Oracle 8...

Cheers,

Graham
