Server initiated Synchronisation on Pocket PC with Ultralite
|
|
|
| Hi,
Mobilink / Ultralite 9.0.2.3044 (developer edition)
I have a basic question about how to install the dblsn listener on
Pocket PC.
I have read in this newsgroup that I must install ASA for CE but I want
to use Ultralite and not ASA as the remote DB. Furthermore, when I have
installed ASA 9 developer edition, I did not find the ASA for CE option
(I can only select Adaptive server anywhere or Ultralite as databases
components).
I'd like also to know if Server initiated synchronisation can be used
with MBusiness. If no, why and when this feature will be available.
Thanks for your answers,
Pierre

| Sorry for the delay in responding. There were a lot of questions in the
post, despite it's relatively small size.
Both the listener and the ASA for CE option are available with the developer
edition. When choosing your install options, ASA for CE is listed under
"Databases" and is called "Adaptive Server Anywhere for CE". The listener
is installed by default and is listed under "Synchronization and
Messaging -> MobiLink -> MobiLink Client Components -> Server Initiated
Synchronization - Listener". Also make sure you've installed the UltraLite
components as well, specifically the "UltraLite for M-Business Anywhere"
selection under "Databases -> UltraLite". A separate install will fire
after the install on your PC to install the CE components on your device.
Ensure that when this secondary install fires that you also choose to
install the Listener on your CE device.
Once you've got everything installed, you can now start developing your
UltraLite application on your PC using the API provided.
As far as using the listener, you will configure and run the listener on the
CE device, and post windows messages to your application in responses to
messages coming from the ML Server. Within your application, the code that
captures the windows messages can choose to fire off synchronization, or
shutdown, or do whatever it is that you want your application to do in
response to the action passed to the listener.

| Thanks for your answer, in fact SQL Anywhere Studio for CE is in a
separate installation file.
I have installed it on the PDA but I am not able to start dblsn with a
dblsn.txt file containing the parameters.
error in command near "".

ps:Is MBusiness compatible with the Server Initiated feature ?

| We'll need to see your dblsn.txt file and the start line you use for dblsn
to explain why dblsn can't parse the file.
Yes, you can use SIS with UL for M-Bus. The listener will simply be posting
windows messages to the UL app you've created on CE using the UL for M-Bus
API. It's up to you to code the application to respond to the Windows
Messages being posted to the app.
