....when it comes to monitoring and management?

I was mainly thinking of an alternative to Embarcadero DBArtisan.

Any inputs are welcome!

Me, I use a perl script that tails the error log and emails
any serious errors.
And a few simple perl scripts that monitor the environment
(such as number of active connections, etc)...

Just curious. Why are you looking for an alternative to DBArtisan?

I don't mean to answer for bruviken, but my reasons are: way expensive,
slow, bulky, the sql editor's intellisense sucks, no one answers
questions on their newsgroups (though phone support is very good).

I replaced the monitoring part of Artisan with my own set of monitors
written in VB.NET. IMO, it is better than Artisan's and functional,
though I never finished all the features that I wanted to add.
I also integrated it into RapidSQL, which doesn't come with a monitor.

Regards.
