Hi sybaser,

Today I noticed that in the manual [Utility Guide], there is a big mistake in
both ASE 12.5.1/12.5.2.
Page 20:

> bcp modes
> bcp in works in one of two modes:
> • Fast bcp – logs each row insert that it makes, used for tables that have one
> or more indexes or triggers.
> • Slow bcp – logs only page allocations, copying data into tables without
> indexes or triggers at the fastest speed possible.

A really horriable mistake.
While Page 22:
> Using fast or slow bcp
> The existence of indexes and triggers on tables affects transfer speed. When
> you use bcp on such tables, bcp automatically uses its slow mode, which logs
> data inserts in the transaction log. These logged inserts can cause the
> transaction log to become very large.

Hehe. hehe. hehe.

While the manual of ASE12.5.0 in chinese defines the modes correctly.

Well spotted... it appears this has been corrected for ASE 15.0.

Don't you think there should be a simple way to point these
out to sybase? Something like an email address :
ase_doc_bugs@sybase.com

I too spot many minor and some non-trivial bugs now and
then, but do not know whom to report to ...

I had asked some time back on a newsgroup about this and the
reply I had got was to tell my technical support people. But
with the tech support people in Japan, things go a bit
slowly - opening a case etc.

And so, I keep mum about the errors.

Don't you guys think sybase can have an email so it is easy
to report such things. We are doing them (and indirectly
ourselves) a service ... and so things should be easier for
us .... :-)

I logged a case for that about 6 month back alongwith 6 to
7 more errors in different manuals. A CR has already been
raised for this particular error.
