Cpu throughput doesn't scale in a linear fashion with an
increase in cpu's. For instance, a box with 10 cpu's doesn't
have twice the speed of 5 cpu's in the same box due to
various overhead processing involved. I would expect to see
similar constraints when allocating Sybase engines. I am
trying to predict the increase in capability in the new
server I'm buying. I can do a server to sever benchmark
comparison, but I would think I would also get some bonus
throughput increase within Sybase by going from 10 engines
with the current box to 4 engines in the new box. Does
anyone have 'real-world' experience with this?

That is also another good reason for Sybase NOT to charge by the #CPU's but
by the Server box!!!!!!

AFAIK, there are different licensing possibilities. Best check with
Sybase sales as they tend to change.
