Author Call For Supported Platforms
Christopher Browne

2005-06-22, 1:25 pm

We are very nearly ready to release Slony-I 1.1, and would like to
collect together a list of platforms where version 1.1 is known to work.

We do know already that it runs on a pretty goodly diverse set of OS
platforms; there are a few that we'd like to verify.

The loose list that we know about:
- AIX 5.1
- Solaris 9
- FreeBSD 5.x
- FreeBSD 4.9
- Linux:
RHES 3
Debian/sid
SuSE
- OpenBSD

We know that Slony-I 1.1 doesn't run on Windows(tm).

We know that people have been having difficulties running PostgreSQL on
AIX 5.3, so Slony-I correspondingly can't work there yet :-(

There have been no reports concerning HP/UX, and so we cannot be certain
of its status there.

If you have successfully run the "release candidate" of Slony-I. it
would be much appreciated if we could receive a listing formatted as
below...

For instance:

OS and Version: SuSE Enterprise 9
Hardware Architecture: AMD-64
PostgreSQL Version: 7.4.7
Status: OK

or

OS and Version: AIX 5.1
Hardware Architecture: PPC
PostgreSQL Version: 8.0.2
Status: OK

-- Snip Here --
OS and Version:
Hardware Architecture:
PostgreSQL Version:
Status:

So as to not fill up the list with this, please reply to Christopher

I think we'll have it done before autumn.

Absolutely, but it won't be in 1.1.0!

That will mean that 1.2 runs on Windows(tm).

Version 1.1 won't...

I don't think that deeper structural changes are necessary in slony, so
1.1.1 seems realistic.

Do you happen to know something we don't? How will the posix threads
used in slon work under windows without structural changes?

Um, As for it, a change in structure is necessary for the reality. It has some
points of common changes. They hope that it is advanced by the discussion.
Our plan works.:-)

pthread is available for mingw, so I'm just optimistic.
