slony as upgrade tool

| Is there any reason that a 7.4.6 database cannot be replicated to an
8.0.3 database, assuming they are both running the same versions of
slony?

No, in fact, it was one of the design considerations that it be capable
of working across different versions and thus usable as an upgrade tool.

That is one of the expressly intended "use cases" for Slony-I...
You should *certainly* be able to do this. After the transition, were
you to run into problems, Slony-I can even offer the ability to fall
back to 7.4.6. That's something that will look really great for
"mitigating risk" for the business folk...
