Author Announcing EAServer 6.0 beta
Loren Corbridge

2005-11-16, 8:24 pm

I'm pleased to announce EAServer 6.0 is in beta. This major
product release includes a new lightweight architecture,
configurable deployment (including a mobile deployment
capability), full support for J2EE 1.4, a new web console
for server management, and a pluggable PBVM. We're very
excited about this new release, and welcome your feedback.

The beta is private, so anyone who is interested should
email me directly. Beta runs through January 2006.

Loren;

Thanks! I have had EAS 6.0 running for a week now and it works well
beside EAS 5.3. For those who want to install them simultaneously, what I do
is install EAS 5.x under "C:\Program Files\Sybase5 ...." and EAS 6.x under
"C:\Program Files\Sybase6 ....". This splits the products at the higher
level in the directory structure. I do this for all my Sybase products
(PowerDesigner, PowerBuilder, PocketBuilder, etc).

TIP: Installing EAS, ASE, ASA, etc can really screw up Sybase Central's
plug-ins. Here is a tip, export each of your Sybase Central plug-in library
list (and note it's Jar) into a text file. After installing another new
product, if a SC plug-in is missing - reregister it using the JAR and
library list you saved. This has saved my "bacon" (maple cured here in
Canada <lol> ) an few times!

Note: EAS 6.0 does not seem to work with any PB release yet. I just get
a "Corba: Permission error 0" message from PB 10.5. But the new Web Console
is OK for testing.

Regards ... Chris

Hi Chris,

This release has been tested against PB 10.2. We are
planning to support 10.5 by GA (it's also in an early beta
stage), but have not completed the testing yet. If you have
this connection problem using 10.2, please open a case. QA
has confirmed to me that they've tried this.

thanks!

I read somewhere that EAServer 6.0 will have the PowerBuilder Application
Server Plug-in for PB deploy to 3rd party j2ee servers.

Is this still the case with the Beta?

Will it only support 10.2 now or could we run pb9 also?

It was easy to install eas6. I had no trouble running 5.2 and 6 on the same
machine under default folders.

It's in the beta, but I have not tested it yet. Contact Loren and get the
download.

Dean,

Glad to hear that the install went well. The 6.0 release
does not include the PBVM for version 9, so at this point,
10.2 is the only supported version.

cheers,
loren

Loren;

Nope my PB 10 does not work .. but I am running 10.2.1. I cannot connect
with PB 9.x, 10.x 10.5.x or 11.x!
The EAS 6.0 installation looks awfully light compared to 5.3. There is no
Sybase Central, Eclipse, etc parts. Also, the web version of Sybase Central
is very basic yet. I would hazard a guess that this release is more like an
Alpha.

When will the PBPlug-In be ready for testing?

Regards ... Chris

If the sybase.private.easerver.beta newsgroup has been opened to beta participants then you
should be posting beta discussion items in that newsgroup.

What's required of beta testers? Do we just use it and report problems as
we find them, or are we given test scripts?

Hi Daniel,

You can just use it and report any problems. You are not given a specific
test script. Let me know if you are interested in participating.

loren
