Everyone:

This is an open call from Sybase engineering's usability department.
Each of our development product, including PowerBuilder, EAServer, and
Workspace, is put through usability testing before it is ever released
to the field. We have a short list of people that we invite to testing
- and now we would like to expand that list.

The official request is below. If you're interested in adding your name
to the list, please contact me (bakerj@sybase.com) with your name and
email address.

What is Usability Testing?
Usability testing is a prime opportunity for customers to evaluate the
design of new or updated functionality during the early stages of
development, when it's easiest to make changes.

Usability tests are usually conducted over the Internet and consist of a
customer attempting to perform real-world tasks using prototype
functionality. During the test, a note taker observe, and a usability
engineer talks with the customer. The results of these tests are taken
to the development team, problems are evaluated and solutions found.

Is This the Same as Beta Testing?
No! Both methods provide customer feedback, but that's where the
similarity ends. Usability tests take hours, rather than weeks or
months, and the results are much more influential than beta test feedback.

How Can You Help?
Sign up to be a test-subject! We need people with varying levels of
Sybase and/or competitive product experience, from every line of work,
including financial, technical, business and administrative. Some tests
occur in the Dublin California lab, but most tests now take place over
the Internet, utilizing LiveMeeting and a toll-free conference call
number. We conduct tests at trade shows, satellite offices and
customer's offices.

To sign up or ask questions about being a test-subject, or about
Sybase's usability testing program, e-mail usability@sybase.com and tell
us your name, email address, in which country you live, whether you want
to participate in our labs in Dublin California, over the Internet or
either over the Internet or in our labs. Once you sign up, when we
schedule a usability test that matches your interests and location, we
will contact you to determine your availability.

What's In It Tor You?
In exchange for your time, you will be paid for each test in which you
participate. More importantly, you will have the knowledge that you
contributed to improving the quality of a product and making it
functional and easier to use.

All;

I have been doing this for the better part of 2005 and I can honesty say
the sessions are well run and always interesting. A great opportunity to
learn something new about what is being worked on at Sybase!
