EaServer migration

| Hi
We are currently using EaServer 4.2.3 Build (42308) as component server (PB
and Java components)and web server. We use PB9.0.1 for development and
production environment. The Easerver is running in window 2000.
Now, we are planning to migrate EaServer from 4.2.3 to 5.x. We don't have
any plan yet to migrate window 2000 and neither PB9 however, a new patch for
PB9 may be applied if is neccesary. I have read EaServer 5.x runs in window
2000.
Have any of you had experience with EaServer 5.x running as web server and
component server? How good/bad has this experience been? What is the most
stable version for EaServer 5.x?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts
Thanks
Ricci

| We are running windows 2000 and have been testing a migration over to
5.3 and the only problem we have come across are configuration
differences withing 5.x. All our j2ee applications deployed fine the
first time. We don't use any PB components so I dont know what that is
like for 5.x

I'm migrating my app from 4.2.2 to 5.3 this week. So far so good. No changes required
other than making sure the PB runtime DLL's are installed. EAS 5.3 did not come with the
PB 7 DLL files. But you are using 9 so you'll be OK. Just make sure the DLL files are at
least at the version you are using now.

| Ricci;
We are currently running a cluster of 4 EAServer's (version 5.2) with
applications built using PowerBuilder 9.0.2. The cluster is capable of
processing 10,000 web users per hour and they use an ASE database that also
gets around 1M DB hits per hour from the 4 EAServers. The system is running
on Dual CPU Xeon servers utilizing 3.2Ghz technology. So far this year we
have had 12 EAServer outages (restarts) and they run 24/7 along with ASE.

PS: I am just migrating the system to PB 10.2.1 using EAS 5.3 and they will
be running on W2003 Server. I have a test system up and running nice an
solid as we speak!

When you're finished with those "old" machines you can send them over to me. I'm sure I
can find something to do with them. <g>

Hmmm ... since they belong to my Government of Canada client, I am not at
liberty to make that decision. However, if I were in charge (and knowing you
have been a good boy this year) - I would send them to you for Christmas :)
