Author Latest provider

Hi,

We are building a .NET Application ( .NET Framework 2.0). This application
needs to support 3 databases ( Sql Server,Oracle and Sybase).

Microsoft is providing provider for Sql Server and oracle.

From sybase web site , we read that sybase is providing a provider
(Sybase.data.aseclient.dll).

We are also using Microsoft enterprise library (DAAB) block to access database.
To customize the Microsoft data access application block for sybase, we need
sybase provider. We download evaluation copy and the provider version is (
Sybase.data.aseclient 1.1.329.0).

But this provider is not supporting all the features. We came to know through
new groups that latest provider (Sybase.data.aseclient 1.1.407.0) is supporting
all these new features. How can we get this latest provider?

In production environment what are all the sybase softwares should have to
access sybase database.

Hi Harinatha,

You need to get latest releases of the Provider by either:

1) You have ASE license and therefore have PC CLient CD for Windows - then
you can download SDK 12.5.1 ESDs (or SDK 15.0 if you have ASE 15.0) from the
Sybase download page, www.sybase.com (navigate to download links).

2) If you don't have ASE, then you need license for the Sybase SDK for ASE
(Windows) - and again you can download ESDs (patches) from the website.

For SDK 12.5.1 the latest is 1.1.481.0
For SDK 15.0 the latest is 1.15.82.0 (almost released :-> )

These are built from the .NET 1.1 platform - they should work with .NET
2.0 - as 1.1 applications. There are no Providers yet that completely
support the .NET 2.0, but this is something that Sybase is working on - not
sure when those will be available.

So as long as you do not use 2.0 API calls your application should work ok.

Paul,

We are using Microsoft Data access application block.(MS DAAB). We want to
customize for sybase as well. for that we need the following classes and methods
in sybase provider (sybase.data.aseclient).

1. AseClientFactory class: which contains a static property Instance.
2.AseCommandBuilder. deriveparameters(dbc
ommand) method.

I would like to know in which version of sybase provider those above things are
available.

Regards
Harinatha

Hi Harinatha,

If you get the latest provider you will have the
AseCommandBuilder.deriveParameters implementation.

We do not have an ADO.NET 2.0 compliant provider yet so the AseClientFactory
is not available.
At this time I have no idea when that will be available - should be Q1/Q2
2006, but this is no commitment
