Problem with Access 2000 database

I am using an MS Access application. It uses an access database which is
converted from Access 97 to Access 2000 format. While running the
application( from MS Access 2003), the size of the database exceeds 2GB and
the program stops responding. If i use database which is in 97 format, the
application works perfectly.

Any idea why this problem happening.
