Data Access Pages based on a query
|
|
| anshulp@gmail.com 2005-10-01, 8:24 pm |
| I am creating a simple data access page which is based on a query.
Except when I do that, the data on the page can not be edited.
I have tried using Section Header: UniqueTable to specify the table
that should be updated.
Any other suggestions.

| Many types of query are not editable; you should show us the query used.
You may also try to set the Resync Command propertie.
Finally, there is a newsgroup exclusively about DAP:
m.p.access.dataaccess.pages .

| Sylvian,
I am untable to do a search and find m.p.access.dataaccess.pages. Do you
have a URL for this site?

| It doesn't appear to have made the cut with Microsoft's web interface.
Try using a real newsgroup reader, such as Outlook Express or Forte Agent.
Alternatively, you can find the group through Google:

| Thanks for the pointer, Douglas. Where would I get Forte Agent?

| Thanks for the link.
You can't assume Outlook Express in every instance. I work for a large
global company and we use XP Pro which I don't believe comes with Outlook
Express. Even at home, I use XP Home, but Office Pro and I use Outlook. I
never open Outlook Express, because the two always fight over who should be
the E-mail agent.

| If you've got Internet Explorer, I believe you've always got Outlook
Express.
It is possible, of course, that you've removed it from the machine: I
believe it should be C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE
I believe it's possible to use Outlook for email and Outlook Express for
newsgroups, but I'm not sure of the exact settings you need. (You could
probably find out in an Outlook newsgroup)
I've also heard rumours that there's an add-in for Outlook that will let you
read newsgroups, but I couldn't find it on the Microsoft site when I looked
briefly just now.

| You are correct. It is exactly where you said it should be. I will look
into configuring it. It may be a problem, because I work for a large
organization that does a lot of government contracting, security is pretty
tight and we are somewhat limited on what we are allowed to do.

| It's entirely possible your IT department may have closed the port(s)
required (sorry, I don't remember what they are off the top of my head), but
that might impact other NNTP readers as well.

| Thanks for the input. Maybe I will try setting it up at home first, then see
if I can make it happen at work. It will take a few days, because I just
moved and I wont get my internet connection installed until tomorrow.
