Author Internet connection sharing does not work anymore

I'm having problems with internet connection sharing. For some time it is
not working anymore (it might have something to do with SP2, but
uninstalling it did not solve the problem). Internet on my host computer
works fine (adsl) works fine and an ip address is automatically assigned. I
enabled internet connection sharing, de- and reinstalled all drivers, de and
re activated internet connection sharing etc but the client computer does
not get any internet access although file sharing works fine.

Putting in the dns server and ip address manually is not an option because I
have no idea what DNS server I need to use. The IP address assigned to the
client is something like 169.245.x.x.

Firewalls are all deactivated and removed from the system and they are
definitely not the cause of the problem.

What could be the problem? Why is internet connection sharing not working
anymore?? Help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but you'll need to find a more appropriate newsgroup to ask this
question (one related to networking in whatever operating system you're
running).

This newsgroup is for questions about interacting with the internet using
