Author Refreshing GroupLevelFilter programmatically

I have an HTML data access page in which I specify a SELECT object as the
GroupLevelFilter.

I want to be able to change the value of the SELECT object programmatically
(using script), and have that refresh the group level filter. However, when
I set the value of the SELECT object using script, nothing happens in the
recordset.

I think the reason for this is that the onchange event of the SELECT object
doesn't fire when you set its value from a script. The onchange event seems
to be triggering a refresh of the recordset.

THE QUESTION IS: How can I trigger the refresh of the recordset
programmatically?

I'm sure there is a method out there that does this, I just haven't found
it. I appreciate any pointers about this... thanks in advance!
