Exclusive Rights Question

I am drifting here, so excuse me ahead of time!.
I fiqured out that I need to not open the frontend in exclusive on every pc,
got that to work, you cant edit or delete a record while your in the sharing
mode, thats good
Is there a way to use code to switch inbetween exclusive and shared modes?
I would like to incoperate code into my app.
I think I could create a field in a table that I have to show hows logged in
to show if they are in shared mode or not.
What I dont know is if you can set exclusive rights while the program is
open with code or not.
Any Thoughts?
