Author ODBC over a LAN?

Hi.

I have a front-end Access (2002) database linked to a mySQL database -
residing on a Local Area Network.

I have set up the ODBC link and, when viewed from the server, I can see all
correct data.

However, when I access the database from another machine on the network, I
can see the front-end database ok but the ODBC connection does not appear
to be working.

Rather than set up ODBCs for each and every user, is it possible to have
one general ODBC (on the server) that everyone can use?

Finally, as mySQL can set users with different permissions, how do I then
prompt each user for their particular (mySQL) username and password when
they attmept to log into the Access database?

Many thanks

Not AFAIK but you can use DSN-less connection. See Douglas J. Steele's
article:

I only have 5 users and was kind of hoping that I could set up individual
DNS / ODBCs on each machine to access the front-end database.

However, the linked-tables change everytime I link the front-end database
to a user's DNS / ODBC.

[And as each user has different username / passwords and permissions to the
database, I cannot have one generic DNS / ODBC]

Is DSN-less connection the only way forward?

You can set up ODBC DSN on each user's workstation which I though you are
trying to avoid.

In my case, MS SQL Server Back-End uses the Windows authentication so the
DSN-less connection works fine for all users.
