Author sign of corruption?

I have an Access 2000 file that has started to misbehave. It updates the
wrong record when changes are made in a form. Tested and confirmed with an
update query. There is no error message, but changes are reflected in what
seem to be random records. The file is getting bigger: after a compact and
repair, it's 50mb. The "main" table has 140,000 records, with 300,000+ in a
related table.
Start looking for different jet versions on the network?
