Opening a ver2000 database with ver2003
|
|
|
| Hi,
I created a database using Access 2K, and split it into one BE on the server
and multiple FEs (one on each user's desktop).
Some of my users have Access ver2000 installed on their desktops, and others
have ver2003. I'm unfamiliar with ver2003 and haven't used it at all. To top
it, the users with ver2003 are in a remote office, and I have to provide them
support over the phone.
Are there any known issues with this? I'm hoping that ver2003 is backward
compatible, and users should be able to open the FE using either of the
versions, and multiple users using different versions should be able to enter
data at the same time.
If you are aware of any snags, will appreciate it if you can let me know.
Thanks.
-Amit
PS. Using Windows XP and Windows 2000

| AFAIK, Access 2003 should be able to run an A2000 db just fine. in fact, the
default file format for new databases built in Access 2003 *is* A2000.

| Access2003 can use database in A2000 file format without any problem.
However, accessing BE using WAN may be unacceptably slow (WAN is generally 1
MBps or less while LAN is generally 100 MBps) and there is an increased risk
of database corruption due to the more frequent drop-outs on WAN .

| Hi Tina and Van,
Thanks for your prompt response. Yes, we have been experiencing slow
response at the remote office, and I'll keep an eye on it re:data corruption.
Cheers,
-Amit
