Roaming profiles and VFP 8.

OK here is a new one on me. I installed an app on a network
workstation running W2K Pro. Used the local administrator account.
Runs great under the local admin account. Installed it to be used by
all users.

Now here is the glitch......
NONE of the local users can use it :( It bombs out right away with
the c5 error. They are using roaming profiles on the network.

So is there a way I can adjust my app either in the .exe or in the
InstallSHield installation to open this software up for all users
without having to install it once for EVERY user.. There are 16 users
nope wont work that way :)

any ideas or workarounds are to be gratefully received :)

and this is a time sensitive problem so a fast help would be greatly
appreciated :)

Are any of the workstations XP? There's a problem with roaming profiles and
use of XP and W2K workstations.

Not to my knowledge, tho I suspect there may be ome out there.
The workstation in question tho is a W2K professional. The app was
installed there using the local admin. I found a reference that told
me that it WAS the roaming profiles that causes this and if that is
turned off the app will work. BUT I am not sure the is a possibility
or even feasible there ;( One question. I read that VFP 9 addresses
this problem and with those runtimes shouldn't have the problem.
Should I upgrade to 9 and reinstall? and will that "fix" the problem?

Hi Patrick:

Yes, this was bug was fixed in VFP 9.0. However, you can still use VFP 8.0
if you use the solution in the article that Stefan mentioned.

OK here is the latest. VFP 9 fixed the C5 exception error when first
starting the program. Everything runs good. IF and thats a big if
there :) If 1. the data files are stored locally on the workstation.
2. all users never have logged into a WIN XP machine
on the network.

Now here is the next kicker. If I move the data files to a mapped
drive, then set a global path in the app to find them. I get a problem
with only one form that has the monthview control on it from common
controls. When you first open that form, it starts the msi installer
looking for something. This behavior is only after I have moved the
data files to a mapped drive. Any ideas???

Also there seems to be some users who never have error and a small
number who have little errrors and one user who just cant get it right
<LOL>. ALl are running the same app from exactly the same dir with
everything the same. Only thing different is thier profiles. SO is
there anything else which will affect how VFP 9 runs on this
enviorment??

Hi Patrick:

I am glad that VFP 9.0 fixed the C0000005 error.

I am not sure about the Monthview control problem. Is that control
installed in the machine? If you allow the MSI installer program to run,
what happens?

Yup the control is installed. Everyone else on the workstation
involved have no problems when running the program. Its just one user.
I let it try to install and it attempted to install a VERY OLD version
of the software when it was in testing stages. That version was
uninstalled a long while ago.

Any ideas would be appriciated as I am gettting very fustrated with
this. A microsoft network, a program compiled in a microsoft
language, on a microsoft operating system, with a microsoft control
and yet it doesnt work??????

check the search paths for each user's environment.
