tape backup errors

I'm getting the following errors in SQL logs when trying to even view the
contents on my tape drive using EM:

 BackupMedium::Report
IoError: read failure on backup device '\\.\Tape0'.
Operating system error 23(Data error (cyclic redundancy check).).

Internal I/O request 0x0F32F428: Op: Read, pBuffer: 0x19D50000, Size: 65536,
Position: 0, UMS: Internal: 0xC000009C, InternalHigh: 0x0, Offset: 0x0,
OffsetHigh: 0x0, m_buf: 0x19D50000, m_len: 65536, m_actualBytes: 0,
m_errcode: 23, BackupFile: \\.\Tape0

Any ideas?

If the errors occur no matter which tape you put in, then you have either
device or driver issues.  If it is only with this one tape, then you have a
damaged tape which can not be read.
