Set FMTONLY ON, long duration.

At the moment I am looking into a system with
some performance problems.
(Not neccesary SQL-server).

I saw some calls were FMTONLY is switched on.
These calls showed al long duration in the
profiler. (duration > 1500).

Can anybody explain this ?

The same statement in QA processes in no time.
