SQL 2K 64-bit: Itanium and/or Xeon?
Configuration: SQL Server 2000 64-bit on Windows 2003

Question: Will SQL Server 2000 64-bit run and ONLY run on servers with
Itanium 2 processors? This is what I read in the System Requirements for SQL
Server 2000 64-bit. So it will NOT run on Xeon. Correct?

I know SQL Server 2005 will run on Xeon.

Yes the 64 bit edition of SQL Server requires one of the true 64 bit OS's
and an Itanium processor. SQL2005 64 bit does not run on a Xeon either,
just the 32 bit.

Andrew, I believe the x64 editions of SQL 2005 will run on 64-bit EM64T Xeon
processors. IA-64 (Itanium) is required for SQL 2000 64 bit.
