SQL Server Standard Edition Installation Failure
I'm experiencing an odd installation problem with SQL server. The
server machine had two versions of SQL installed, SQL Server Standard
edition, and MSDE. I don't know why. Nobody admits to installing MSDE.
It was a miracle installation.

Anyway, the server platform is Windows Server 2003. I've uninstalled
both versions of SQL, and removed the registry entries. Now when I
attempt to reinstall SQL Server Standard edition, I'm presented with
the SQL Server Installation splash screen and an InstallShield message:
Setup is preparing the InstallShield Wizard which will guide you
through the rest of the...

After the InstallShield progress indicator reaches 100 percent, both
the spash screen and message are removed from the display, and nothing
more occurs. I've checked the Windows Task Manager/Processes tab, and
can still see "setupsql.exe" in the list, but it is apparently
inactive. I've left the system, waiting for another miracle to occur -
sometimes as long as 15 minutes (yep, done it many times) - but the
result is always the same.

Please help.
